Punting on this pending a way to do things with a file without having to make it public. This is because if you share a file with someone, they won't be able to do very much with it unless the file is public or can be made public by the person with whom it is shared. We will revisit after initial release. Moving to a later sprint.

            Notes:

If you authenticate and try to retrieve a file, you can only get the entire file. Terrain currently does not support partial downloads on private files.

Files that have been made public (via the UI) are being served by a different endpoint that supports byte range requests.

This ticket could be very interesting in that we could allow users to access their data without having to make it public.

I am changing this ticket to investigate to check if CyVerse has made changes to allow for authenticated files to have byte range access.
