                Theoretically, if a particular "http" url redirects to "https" or anything else , the status code returned would be 300 series which indicates if the url is moved permanently or temporarily (see HTTP Header Location , HttpURLConnection ). After receiving 300 series response, we can try requesting the "https". However, redirecting it to the location in the response is the ideal option and this would be possible with HttpURLConnection class which is used in Bookmark pipeline to check if the remote file exists. Trying to assess the scope of changes needed and for alternatives just in case

                The changes to check for status code seems to be made in UriUtils class getInputStream function. The example URL that can be used for this purpose is http://bitbucket.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0

                Solution: When user submits the quickload url, either through the GUI or IgbDataSource endpoint, the URL's validity is checked before its added as a DataProvider and if a 300 series response code is returned, the redirect URL is used instead of the user's URL. See Commit

                Testing on Mac OS 12.5 using the IGBF-3103.dmg from Karthik's branch.
                Reset preferences to default in IGB and remove the .igb folder.

                Successfully able to add http://bitbucket.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0 as a new data source in the Data Sources tab.
                Successfully able to add a data source using the add data source endpoint http://127.0.0.1:7085/igbDataSource?quickloadurl=http://bitbucket.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0&quickloadname=3103_TEST.

                [Karthik Raveendran Need to add the call to checkValidAndSetUrl within the if(isEditPanel). When I add the above http link in the edit panel it is failing to add the data source.

                Tested the 3103a branch from Karthik.

                Everything is working correctly.

                A few notes:

                1. The diff for the commit appears to show a lot of formatting changes such as tabs? It's unclear to me, but the commit seems difficult to tell where the changes are. Double-check that formatting changes such as tabs/spaces were not accidentally introduced before proceeding with a pull request.
                2. When I enter the following URL with a typo (https://bitbuct.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0/) IGB is locked for over a minute. The URL should lead to a connection refused, and with the setReadTimeout at 5000 I would think this would be quite fast, but it takes closer to a minute when conn.getResponseCode() is called. Not sure why this is happening, but it is a weird edge case and the proper error is thrown in the IGB log.

                UPDATE: I think we can take a look at this edge case as part of IGBF-3151.

Successfully able to add http://bitbucket.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0 as a new data source in the Data Sources tab. Successfully able to add a data source using the add data source endpoint http://127.0.0.1:7085/igbDataSource?quickloadurl=http://bitbucket.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0&quickloadname=3103_TEST . Successfully able to add the URL with a typo http://bitbuct.org/nfreese/quickload-genome-in-a-bottle/raw/release-v1.0.0/ and then edit the URL in the Data Sources tab. Closing ticket.

                Due to an issue where the redirects broke the ability to add secure quickloads, we have reverted 3103 and moved it to the backlog. See IGBF-3103 for additional information.
