Plan on-boarding and longer term tasks for Bioinformatics Data Manager & Trainer post (PK)

I've uploaded pictures of our notes from the in-person meeting last week where we planned tasks for me for the next few months and outlined big picture goals for the rest of the year. Marking this ticket as closed.

To do: Write up or take picture of white-board in office with notes/schedule from in-person meeting.

Today I walked through some aspects of IGB data storage/management with Nowlan. I also started combing through the IGB User Guide to get more familiar with IGB's functionalities and have also been watching some YouTube videos with the same goal in mind. Tomorrow will likely look pretty similar! I'd like to play around with adding various types of non-local/non-quickload data to IGB to see how that works.

Ideas:

• Advertise "Open Office" hours where users can jump into a call and ask questions and get help.
  • Need to advertise on bioviz.org, biostars.org, etc.
• Create 45 min IGB demo/lab for UNC Charlotte students
  • Biology Department, public health
  • Survey to develop plans for presentations, lab exercises
  • Expand to Wake Forest, NC A&T, Johnston Smith
• Create vignettes/user stories demonstrating value of visualization
  • Would be more advanced, longer
• Create new/updated how-to videos for IGB with higher production values
• Prepare for 2024 ASPB IGB virtual demo
• Identify local/regional conferences/meetings that we could apply to give an IGB workshop.
• Create surveys for genome browser users to identify what features are helpful, what features are needed, etc.

Requested email Niner account setup for PK today. Decided she will use the newer Apple 16-inch screen laptop computer.

NF suggests: Moving his setup to the office next door to his current one and configuring it for pair programming so that NF and KR (and others?) can continue to work together.
