Task: Draft an abstract for the BOSC//ISMB conference coming up in July. Here are instructions on how to submit the abstract:

      • Submissions are via the ISMB EasyChair. If you don’t already have an EasyChair account, you will need to create one. Once you sign in, you will see “Please select the track relevant for your submission.” Select BOSC (5th line down). Later in the submission process, you will be able to specify one or two other COSIs/tracks that your abstract might also fit into.
      • A 250-word short abstract is required for ALL submissions (talk and/or poster). (Confusingly, the submission form refers to this as simply “Abstract”.)
      • If you want to be considered for a talk, you also MUST submit a 1-2 page “long abstract” as a PDF. (Yes, we did suggest to ISMB that calling both of these things “abstracts” was confusing.)
      • If you submit for a talk but your abstract is not chosen for a talk, it will automatically be considered for a poster.
      • New ISMB rule this year: a presenting author may present NO MORE THAN ONE talk or poster. If you want your work to be presented as both a talk and a poster, a different presenting author needs to submit for a poster.
      • You don’t need to register before you submit your abstract, but to present your talk or poster you will need to register for ISMB.

Abstract template (optional): bosc-abstract-template (MS Word)

See the BOSC website linked in the table above for additional guidelines/requirements (there are a lot!).

Talk/poster acceptance notification deadline is May 13.

For convenience of reviewers, I added a new attachment with the "long abstract" requested by the conference organizers.

            Update:

            • Shorter (250 word max) abstract submitted via Easy Chair account on Friday (last day to do that!)
            • I got an email from the BOSC organizers inviting me to send them a long abstract, since I ran out of time to provide one before the Friday deadline
            • I wrote the request long abstract and submitted it via email on Sunday, cc-ing the email listed on the Easy Chair submission site and the email listed in the email (two emails)
            • Someone got back to me and let me know the long abstract had been added to my Easy Chair account. I logged on and confirmed that the long abstract had indeed been added.
            • I added a PDF to the Dropbox folder showing the shorter abstract submitted on Friday. The file name is: ISMB-2024-Submission-1337.pdf
            • Please note that I changed the Dropbox folder name from "2024-BOSC" to "2024-ISMB"

I've added a pdf version of the short abstract to this ticket – Ann Loraine, could you please add the pdf version of the short abstract to the Dropbox, too? I don't seem to be able to modify the folder you shared. Everything else looks good, so feel free to close this ticket once that's done.

Update: I needed to re-sync Dropbox on my computer and then add the abstract document that way. Nothing else needs to be done – please ignore my request. Closing this ticket.
