      Description

Situation: We've talked to a few users now who would like to be able to use the data they have stored in Google Drive with IGB. Although it's not possible to add Google Drive files to IGB via URL, Google Drive can be added to the file finder just like we do with Dropbox on our personal computers.

Here's a link to some instructions for doing this: https://support.google.com/a/users/answer/13022292?hl=en

The benefit of this workaround (rather than simply downloading files from Google Drive) is that any changes made to the files are automatically updated in both locations.

Task: Add some documentation to the User's Guide explaining how to load files from Google Drive in IGB.

I've added the following blurb to the "Loading data" page in the User's Guide:

Files stored on Google Drive cannot be added to IGB via URL. Instead of downloading these files to add them locally, you can use Drive for desktop to keep your files synced between the cloud and your computer. To install Drive for desktop, download the installer at this link and follow the instructions.

My only comment would be that the link to Drive for desktop may change, so maybe omit the sentence about how to install Drive for desktop?

I was curious if I could hack a Google Drive file to work in IGB. The answer is yes, but with many caveats that make it a horrible way to store data for IGB. For example, the following link does work, but probably only because it is a very small file and is not compressed:
          https://drive.google.com/uc?export=download&id=10bY6NzXUkzf3VWMKIisRBshzRngVnPf3&name=name.bed

I've removed the link to the Drive for desktop installer. Closing this ticket!
