Read selection does not work from "the back end"

Load reads. Select a single read from 3' end. not that it doesn't select. Select a read from 'top' or 'bottom' but at the 3' end, it doesn't select (usually). Now, select a single read from the 5' end, it works. Select from top or bottom of 5' end, and it works. Somewhere in the middle of the read (and it seems to shift around!) is the select/no select point. This affects selecting thrpough several reads at once - if you drag through a read on the "back half" it will not select.
