version 8.4.4 does not load saved sessions

      Description

      Hi,

      I updated to version 8.4.4 64-bit (my computer runs Windows 7 professional 64-bit), now the loading session feature does not work any more. Tried repeatedly.

      Help would be much appreciated, I am working with a custom genome and usually load about 10 coverage tracks.

            After discussing your issue with the rest of the team, it seems that the session saving and loading feature in IGB is somewhat fragile. It is possible that sessions saved in older versions of IGB may not load properly in newer versions. We will be thinking of ways to resolve this problem as we continue development and will be sure to notify you when any changes are made in regards to your issue.

            If you can, try to save your session using the newest version of IGB and see if you can load that session using the same version that you used to save it. If this does not solve your problem, please let me know and our team will work to find a solution that meets your needs.

            Just FYI, I have already done that: saved sessions with the new version. They make a file that has the right size and extension, but they do not open.

            I am sorry you are having difficulty with this issue. I am having trouble reproducing this problem on my end. Would you mind providing me with a few more details like the operating system you are using? If you are able to send the session file giving you the problem, it may be helpful as well.

            Also, if you have a chance, open your session file with the IGB console open. To open the console select "Show Console" under the Help menu at the top of IGB. Once this is open, try to load your IGB session file and then copy the text displayed in the console so that you can send it my way. This can sometimes provide our team with the information necessary to track down the problem.

            If you need assistance with gathering any of this information please let me know.

            I have attached a jpg of the operating system info, and a txt with the console text.

            And I have found the solution: I have to open the (custom) genome first, then I can load the session….not sure whether I should look sheepish now.

            Think I did not have to do that in the previous version, but then, my memory is in constant overwrite mode.

            You should not have to open a custom genome first to be able to load an IGB session, but I am glad you were able to find that workaround to help you for the time being.

            It looks like an exception was generated in the console when you tried to load the session. This exception can give some insight into what is causing the problem. I am sending this exception to our lead developer so that he can investigate the code that is causing your problem. We will get back to you when we have some information that is more conclusive.

            We appreciate you bringing this issue to our attention and we hope that you continue to give us feedback on IGB in the future.
