[~aloraine], I am continuing on working on adding the end screen for videos, but there are some issues:

          1. Most of the videos that are present on the IGB YouTube channel don't have the appropriate area for a card to be placed without affecting any text or images on the screen.
The end screen on most videos, which has the IGB logo, and text that says "Thanks for watching, BioViz.org" doesn't have the empty area needed, so I am forced with covering up the top portion of the word "Thanks", which can be seen at the end of this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LUszUX2wuA.
          2. Some other videos have even a larger font for the end screen, so any kind of video element added to the end screen would result in a complete coverage of some words, which can be seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEf1CnkTQCo
          3. The video element for the end screen has to be present for a minimum of 5 seconds, so some videos that don't have an end screen or have an end screen less than 5 seconds long, will have the video element appear before the end screen starts.

I am trying to be consistent with the placement of the video element in the end screens, but I am moving it up and down if it's covering important information.
On most videos, the video element is being added to the top left of the end screen.

YouTube had a way of combining videos together, which would have been helpful in this case, since I could have uploaded a private blank 10 second video to the IGB channel and simply combined it with every video that had an issue with the end screen, but this feature was removed in 2017 to reduce the amount of processing the YouTube system had to do.
So the only way to solve this issue would be to re-upload every video present on the channel with the revised end screen that is at least 10 seconds long. It's a very easy thing to do, but will take some time, and it would also mean that the view count would basically reset for each video, since we are not allowed to change or re-upload the same video without losing the view count.

If that is not an option, then we are forced to allow these video elements to block the text present in end screens, which does look a bit unprofessional, but it works.

General tags and video-specific tags were added to all videos.

Added video elements to link up with next videos

          • Video will have a single video element that links to the next video of the same playlist
          • Videos that are at the end of a playlist will have two video elements, one linking to the first video of the next playlist, and the other linking to the latest uploaded video on the channel.
          • The playlist order for end screen video elements is (as discussed with Dr. Freese): IGB Quickies --> Walkthroughs --> Focus on a Feature --> Pluggable Apps --> BioViz Connect
So the last video of IGB Quickies playlist will link to the first video of Walkthroughs playlist, and so on.

URL Blocker: Dr. Freese also mentioned that there were some bots spamming inappropriate URLs in comments of IGB videos. A good solution is to enable a YouTube comments option to automatically block any comments that contain a URL, and send them to the channel admins for review before publishing. Blocking URLs does not affect comments made by moderators/admins of the channel. After discussing with Dr. Freese, I have turned on this feature.

To view the comments held for review:

          1. Click on the channel logo on the top right of the screen.
          2. Choose "YouTube Studio".
          3. On the YouTube Studio page, click "Comments" on the left side of the screen.
          4. Click on the tab called "Held for review"
            • You can see a comment made by my UNCC account for test purposes.

This feature can be turned off by:

          1. Click on the channel logo on the top right of the screen.
          2. Choose "YouTube Studio".
          3. On the YouTube Studio page, click "Settings" on the bottom left of the screen.
          4. Choose "Community" tab.
          5. Scroll all the way down and un-check the option called "Block links".

Moving this ticket to "Needs 1st Level Review".

          Change request:

          • For https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=963miTfZOc0, add the "watch next" tile at 1:06:48 and place it in the bottom right corner of the screen. At that point, the tutorial is winding down, so it's fine for the ending tile to hang around on the screen that long.
          • Please check that the ending tile(s) are on-screen for long enough for users to notice them, read the tile text, and thing about whether or not they want to watch the video. I think one to two minutes should be enough. For most of these videos, not much is happening in the lower right corner, so that is probably a good place to place the "watch next" tile (or tiles).

          Also, a comment:

          • Sounds like you were able to introduce a musical note when the ending tile appeared? I like this idea because it sort of wakes you up a bit and lets you know something new is about to happen. Can you describe how you did that in a comment?

[~aloraine], it turns out YouTube only allows a endscreen video element to be on the screen for a maximum of 20 seconds and a minimum of 5 seconds.
We are also not allowed to move the element back in the timeline, so If a video is 5:00 minutes long, a video element is not allowed to exist before 4:40.

End-screen video elements are great for short videos where you know the viewer will most likely watch the entire thing, but for long videos, I have just found out that YouTube has another option, called Cards. Cards are elements a user can click on throughout the duration of the video, but at certain time (specified by the user owner), the cards will show a teaser with text (for about 8 seconds) letting the viewer know it's there to be clicked on. When the viewer clicks on it, it will show either a video, channel or link for the user to click on.

          From YouTube:

          • When a viewer is watching your video, they'll see a teaser for the time that you designate.
          • When the teaser isn't showing, viewers can hover over the player and click the card icon . On mobile, viewers can see the card icon whenever the player controls are showing.
          • When they click the teaser or the icon, they can browse cards on the video.

I have enabled this feature on the video you mentioned. So if you watch it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=963miTfZOc0 , you should see a white "i" icon on the top right throughout the video, but when the time reaches 01:06:48, a teaser will show saying "Video to Watch Next". The teaser will only show for a couple of seconds, but it will let the viewer know that it's there for them to click on and read its content. We continue to have the end screen video element, but the cards if helpful for viewers who do not watch till the last second (which is most of them).

I will go ahead and add these Cards elements to the long videos (videos over 10 minutes). Please let me know if you do not think this is a good implementation. It would only take me a few minutes to remove these Cards elements if you don't like them .

          Please see above comment.

          Changes made:

          1. All videos longer than 10 minutes have Cards activated that show a teaser 2 minutes before the end of the video, letting the viewer know what to watch next.
          2. End screen video elements for all videos were moved to the bottom right when they don't cover any important information.

Jay Chamma, In reviewing, there are a couple of questions I have:

In the Alternative Splicing and Primer Design using IGB video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LUszUX2wuA), if you click the info card in the top right and then choose one of the video cards YouTube will both open and autoplay the video in a new window, and open and autoplay that same video in the current window. So now there are two of the same video starting simultaneously.

Is there a way to have just one or the other of these things happen?
This problem is only present with the in-video cards, not the end-video tiles.

Separately, the “Up next” video that YouTube will autoplay is different from the “Next Video” placed in the card of the current video. Should they be the same?

I checked other YouTube channels using this feature to see if this occurs on their channel and it does, so it looks like a problem from YouTube's end. I tested this feature as I went last week and this wasn't occurring, so I think this is just a temporary bug on YouTube's end.

The "Up next' video is controlled by YouTube themselves, and they recommend whatever video they want to the user, which is dependent on the user's watch history. So as channel administrators, we have no control over that.

Everything looks good. The playlists for Walkthroughs, Focus on a Feature, Pluggable Apps, and IGB Quickies all contain info cards if over 10 minutes, and end video tiles. These tiles link appropriately to the next video in the playlist, or show two other videos which start a new playlist if this is the last video of a series.

Moving to Ready for Pull Request.
