Indicate the Track Operation performed (including the value) in the Track Label

    Details

      Description

      From Ann:

      • If you add a value to a track, there doesn’t seem to be any way to find out what that value was — the name of the new, IGB-generated track doesn’t seem to report the value you added to the graph. The same is true for all the other arithmetic operations. This is very confusing and makes the feature hard to use. The track name should report the operation that was done and the arguments that were used.

We should ask Ann for clarification on how the performed track operation, including the value, should be specifically indicated in the track label. Currently it looks like this: "Add(50.0)-RNA-Seq Berry Development / SM / Graph / ripe 2-41, coverage" (see screenshot).

I think this could be optimized to look a little more user friendly, maybe something like this: "Add (50.0): RNA-Seq Berry Development / SM / Graph / ripe 2-41, coverage".

I am assigning to Ann so that she can include her thoughts on this issue.

Only the name of the data set (not full path) should be shown in the track label. However, when a user selects a track and clicks the “i” (upper right) or selects the “Selection Info” tab, then they should be able to view the full path of the data sets.

The syntax you mentioned is good:

          NAME argument [,argument,…]

where NAME is the name of the operation they performed, as displayed in the user interface. The names of operations need to match what the user sees in the UI.

I have created IGBF-679 to track the issue of the full file path being visible in the track label.

For the current story, we need to change the way track operations and values are displayed in the track label to this:

"Add 50.0: Cold, Control " (Note the space between the track operation and the value, there are no parentheses, and there is a colon directly after the value and a space after the colon; also be sure that you DON'T include the quotation marks in the track label)

          Re-assigning to Tarun for changes.
